It is located 30 km from Zalakaros at the western end of Lake Balaton, on the shores of Keszthely Bay, in a flat area on the south and slightly hilly in the north. The surrounding hills and mountains of the Zala Hills and the Keszthely Mountains surround the city. At the beginning of the 18th century, Keszthely was owned by several landlords. But the appearance of the Festetics in the city brought positive changes. Keszthely became the center of a huge estate.

Festetics Castle

The listed building is the largest and most demandingly restored castle in Hungary. The Baroque castle was largely built in the second half of the 1700s, and the U-shaped single-storey building is joined by a two-storey library wing and a chapel. It can be visited all year round, every day except Monday. Beautiful garden of protected park. Festetics Castle, as the fourth largest castle in the country, awaits visitors with significant exhibitions and prestigious musical events after its complete renovation. After the change of regime, the city began to develop seriously. The House of Lake Balaton Wines has been located in the 500-year-old cellar system of the castle since 2005.

Helikon park

This park is the largest green area in the city. Under its huge, century-old trees, we can take pleasant walks on the manicured promenades. In the middle of the main promenade stands a little late for the centenary of the Helikon festivities, a dome Helikon monument erected in 1921, which became a symbol of the city. After the city took possession of the shores of Lake Balaton, the island bath was built, and then the two patinated hostels, Hullám and Balaton, still stand today. On the eastern edge of Helikon Park, the Queen Elizabeth Road was built, and a line of villas was built next to it in a few years.

Georgikon House and Major Museum

Here is the original main building of Georgikon, Europes first higher agricultural school, founded by György Festetics in 1797, which is now a hotel. One-storey building with a gabled roof. The interiors are dust-domed. The major major of the educational institution is the Georgikon Major Museum, in which, in addition to the history of Hungarian agricultural higher education, there is an exhibition of grain growing, viticulture and wine, and a weavers workshop. An impressive sight is the working steam.

Balaton Museum

In the permanent exhibitions of the Balaton Museum you can see material memories of the formation of Lake Balaton, the fauna and flora, the history of fishing and sailing, the bathing life of Lake Balaton and the excavations in the area. In its halls, 4-5 historical and fine art periodical exhibitions can also be viewed annually. Baby Museum - Panopticon - Snail Parliament Europes largest baby museum. The Panopticon features life-size figures of 40 famous people in contemporary attire. The Snail Parliament is a giant model of 4.5 million 28-million-year-old Pannonian snails. Marzipan Museum The family-style patisserie also offers a wide selection of special marzipan desserts. The Marzipan Museum behind the patisserie displays about 100 marzipan decorative works.
